This week we visited the Montcalm London Marble Arch Hotel – here is Lida’s blog……

 

Kate, Catherine and I made our way into London on yet another  Monday evening for a site inspection of the Montcalm London Marble Arch and were particularly keen to see the new Grand Ballroom space (not quite finished yet, but almost there).

  

We had a very good start as we were greeted at the door by the GM, Sabine  (those of you who know me will know how much I love meeting GMs!).

The Grand Ballroom, which has been created from space purchased by the hotel from the Synagogue next door was officially opened on March 1st although the last few bits of internal decoration/lighting are still being completed.  It can be split into three sections holding approximately 500 theatre style when the whole suite is opened out.  There is a pre-function area to the suite, although this can’t accommodate this number of people. We are holding the Grand Ballroom on option for a client of ours who is looking to hold a meeting for approx 200 pax plus a small exhibition. For this event, two sections of the Ballroom will be used and the third and smallest section together with the pre-function area will be used for the exhibition and lunch.

There is another smaller room on this floor which could be used as a breakout room. Additionally, there are six accessible bedrooms on the same level which could be turned into small syndicates, if required.

We were only able to see one of the 153 bedrooms, a suite, as all the other bedrooms were sold. By the way, Baroness Margaret Thatcher had passed away earlier that day and apparently many journalists were already flying into London!

The suite was lovely but the glass-walled bathroom was a little too European for us British girls (we think even the Iron Lady may have commented “No, no, no!”).  All bathrooms have wonderful rain showers.

We had dinner in a lovely private room next door to The Grill Restaurant. The food was very good although my lamb needed to have been cooked a little more but the peppercorn sauce and chunky chips more than made up for it! The room is suitable for up to 18 people boardroom style for a meeting and perhaps one or two less for a private dinner.

The Montcalm also has another space called the Crescent, which is where breakfast is served and they do hire this space for private functions.

All in all an informative and enjoyable evening was spent by us in London and it was very good to finally meet Saj and also his colleague Claudia – thank you for inviting us to see and experience the Montcalm London Marble Arch. Good luck with your first event in the Ballroom next week!
