Recently, Exclusive Hotels hosted a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed ball at South Lodge Hotel that Laura and her friend Abbie were lucky enough to attend. Here is her blog…

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was one of my favourite books as a child so I was really looking forward to reliving those childhood memories. Having attended the previous agent event at Pennyhill Park I knew we were in for a treat at South Lodge Hotel.

Upon arrival, we headed to our beautiful bedroom situated in the old stable blocks. The rooms are well-finished and have luxury touches and modern comforts. Ours was huge, with a large lounge area along with two bathrooms! One with the usual amenities and one extra special one with a jacuzzi bath complete with tv!

At 7pm sharp we headed to the ‘Factory Gates’ greeted by Oompa Loompas to the sound of a mariachi band. After a glass (or two) of bubbles and a few canapes, we headed to the dinner room decked out with giant candy canes, chocolate bars and sweetie centrepieces.

The evening meal included some creative and quirky dishes in keeping with the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory theme. The dessert station encompassed a vast variety of sweet treats, including a chocolate fountain, there was no risk of going hungry, even the menus were edible!

Following dinner, we headed down to the party room to another incredibly dressed up and themed space! KDM put on the entertainment for the event and they didn’t fail to impress, there was an edible bubble machine, a sweetie flavoured smoke station and edible perfume.
There was even a money machine, which of course I had to give a go. As you stand in the capsule it blows notes around you, the aim is to catch as many notes as you can along with the golden ticket if you were lucky. It’s not as easy as it sounds you know!

We got all dressed up for the photobooth, sipped away on sweetie cocktails and danced into the night to the music from the band.

The next morning, we nursed our sugar hangovers with a delicious breakfast before heading home with a box of goodies made up of gifts from each hotel from the group.

Thanks for having us, it was great fun! You can see more of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory party evening here
