Lida popped into the Montcalm at the Brewery, London the City recently – she couldn’t walk past it and not go in!
The hotel opened in 2011 and was formerly the site of Whitbread & Co, Britain’s first purpose-built mass production brewery. The original building dates back from as early as 1750 when Samuel Whitbread moved his brewing operations to Chiswell Street on the ‘eastern rim of Georgian London’. The last beer brewed there was in 1976, when the site was then turned into Whitbread PLC’s Head Office.
The hotel has 6 meeting and event spaces and below are a selection of photos of some of the rooms. The Cornwallis Room is located downstairs and is particularly suitable for receptions as opposed to meetings, due to pillars in the room. All the other meeting rooms are on the ground floor and benefit from natural daylight. As one would expect from a 5-star hotel, all the rooms have state of the art facilities. The adjoining Chiswell Street Dining Rooms can hold up to 110 guests seated and 250 people standing.
The bedrooms were very nice indeed reflecting a mix of heritage and contemporary aspects. They obviously have all the luxurious amenities that one would expect of a five star hotel, including an iPod docking station.
Across the street from the hotel is the London City Suites by The Montcalm, an intimate and boutique townhouse that is ideal for longer staying guests. For families, there are interconnecting rooms and longer staying guests benefit from the kitchenettes.
