At De Souza Associates, our job is to find venues for corporate events. Of all sorts. Every day. It’s our business to know all the secret, unique, hidden, venues; the new and the exceptionally old.
The majority of reasons why event organisers come to us is that they don’t know what they don’t know; our job is to help them. And, while the majority of occasions the planner has identified a location or a brief for the event, sometimes they just want something out of the ordinary, a bit unusual or unique.
It’s for this reason we’ve got to know the unique and unusual venue market incredibly well. It’s an interesting part of the venue scene and one that has become a stalwart of British venues. It is also, as a report launched by Lime Venue Portfolio has confirmed, a reason to come to the UK for a meeting or event.
So, what is a ‘Unique & Unusual Venue’?
The folk at LVP divide it between sporting and leisure attractions; country houses, castles and museums; or sporting stadia, racecourses and arenas. These are venues whose normal operating business is not meeting and events, but who can easily turn their hands to our needs when needed.
The report includes all sorts of interesting information about the sector and why it adds value to event experiences. The reality is that people are more likely to come to an event if the host venue is interesting or enticing in some way.
The report shows the contribution of unique and unusual venues to the events industry, a solid quarter of all events are booked through them (roughly) every year, and mean a vital contribution of the upkeep and development of these attractions. Unique Venues of London talk about the capital’s amazing draw as a meetings and events destination, made good by such great venues as the Cabinet War Museum or HMS Belfast.
The report is really interesting, fun to look at, and gives event organisers the chance to feedback on their own experience; so, if you have the chance do take a look. It’s a compelling argument for trying to do something more with your event; of building on your production quality, your creativity and leaving a more lasting message with your delegation.
